The region itself is found in the foothills of the Himalayas, which creates a harsh environment for growing, but can in turn produce complex flavours. First Flush refers to the first budding of leaves in the spring after a winter dormancy, when the leaves have the strongest aromatics. These Darjeelings are withered to a very low moisture contents which only allows a light oxidation almost green in hue.
