After the beachhead was secured, Allied forces unloaded over 9,000 tons of supplies every day until the end of August. It was commented before the invasion that due to the sheer amount of war supplies concentrated in England, that the only thing keeping the British Isles from sinking were the thousands of barrage balloons.
